TRAVEL GRANTS
Call for Applications: GENI Engineering Conference Diversity Travel Grants
With support from the National Science Foundation, a limited amount of travel support
funding is available through the GENI Project Office for persons wishing to attend the
2nd GENI Engineering Conference. The purpose of the travel grants is to increase the
educational, ethnic and geographic diversity of the conference attendees and to create
opportunities for informal social networking between participants from a wide range of
universities and companies.
Deadline:
Travel grant applications are due February 8th -- any applications received after
February 8th will be considered only if money remains available after evaluating the
applications received on or before February 8th. Applications will be reviewed by a
diverse panel of researchers and we will try hard to notify grant awardees by February
15th.
Contents of Application:
Applications for a travel grant should contain:

Biography: a brief description of the applicant, including your name, business or
school affiliation, address, and, if a student, current year in degree path and when
the degree is expected.
- Application: A brief letter explaining why the applicant’s participation in the
GENI Engineering Conference would be beneficial both to the candidate (what
the applicant expects to learn at the conference) and the other attendees (how the
applicant is likely to improve the geographic or ethnic diversity of the conference,
or how the applicant reflects an intellectual community likely to be underrepresented
at the conference such as K-12 education).
- Reference Letter: For student applicants, a letter from the student's advisor
confirming the expected benefits to the applicant.
- Cost Estimate: An estimate of the round-trip airfare from the candidate's home
airport to Washington DC, and whether the applicant expects to need 2 or 3 nights of
hotel support (For details on what costs will be reimbursed, click here).
