GENI resources (also known as aggregates) are supported by the IT staff of the organizations hosting these resources, ideally in collaboration with local research and academic participants. When an organization decides to host a GENI resource, IT staff participate actively in site planning, setup, acceptance testing and ongoing operations.

Because GENI is distributed across multiple campuses and research networks, GENI operations is coordinated by the GENI Meta Operations Center. The GMOC coordinates and tracks operations activities with GENI engineering and operations support personnel throughout the world. The GMOC also maintains a calendar of planned and unplanned outages that IT staff use to communicate about event status.
