GENI is an experimental facility being planned by the NSF, in
collaboration with the research community. It's goal is to enable the
research community to invent and demonstrate a global communications
network and related services that will be qualitatively better than
today's Internet. The research community is encouraged to participate in its design.

NSF has funded BBN Technologies to
establish GENI project office (GPO). See the
BBN press release for more information.

A draft of the Project Execution Plan (Conceptual Design) is
now available. It includes a set of documents: a Research Plan
(why we are building GENI), a Facility Design (what GENI is),
a Requirements Document (link between research and facility),
and the Construction Plan (how GENI is to be built). This set
updates January 2006 Project Execution Plan.

Additional information about the planning process are now
available: (1) new and updated Design
Documents (including multiple views), (2) a planning
schedule for the next several
months, and (3) additional presentations
that summarize on-going efforts to flesh out the facility
definition.
